Aesthetics is the science dealing with the laws and principles of beauty in art and nature. Beauty is the ultimate goal of any creation. Thus, the aim of a painter is also to create something beautiful and aesthetically of high value. To achieve this, he has to follow some grammar and principle. The painter should have a thorough knowledge of anatomy, perspective, space, form, light & shade etc.
The knowledge and adherence to grammar cannot bring that absolute independence and without this painting cannot be creative and gratifying. A painter should have an inner eye and intuition. The paintings should be balanced and the poetic, romantic, musical mood of the subject matter is to be realized and depicted in the painting correctly. A good painter should decorate his painting with emotion, sentiment and visualisation correctly to achieve the high value of aesthetics.
Painting is a form of art and strict perseverance and meditation is required for all forms of art. Painting can be Realistic, which is an ‘Art with a purpose’. A painter can present the aesthetic value of a realistic painting very easily because it conveys the spectator the essential reality of that situation. The aesthetic of this painting depends on the real or convincing emotional projection of a given form or scene.
Again in an Abstract painting, which is an ‘Art for arts, sake’, the painter reduces the object to a series of non photographic shapes, lines or colours. The aesthetic of this type of painting relies upon the non-representational or non-naturalistic forms of expression.
So, it may be said that, when a painting satisfies it creator as well as the spectators in every respect, it fulfills all the criteria of the aesthetics of painting.
